Harcrest recently delivered a new sustainability innovation for its thriving local community, the launch of a 654sqm Community Garden and Orchard.

Saturday’s launch was attended by more than 200 residents and members of the wider Knox community, who were invited to celebrate and experience for themselves the unique and sustainable feature, which is set to create a new, central community meeting place.

The Community Garden and Orchard presents a unique opportunity for Harcrest residents and the wider community to embrace sustainable living and connect with their neighbours. Local families are encouraged to create their own edible landscapes by harvesting their own fruit, vegetables and herbs in dedicated plots, which are now available for lease – a unique prospect for the local community.

Ward Councillor, Cr Nicole Seymour was in attendance to officially open the Community Garden and Orchard, planting a seedling as a symbol of growth, and garden experts from Very Edible Gardens were on site with an interactive potting station for the kids and workshops offering hot tips on growing food in small spaces.

With the location of Harcrest smartly utilising the abundant local amenity and transport links, the 56.2 hectare former Austral bricks site is now home to more than 550 residents, boasting a fully serviced retail village. At completion, Harcrest will be home to approximately 2,000 residents.
